Disclaimer

If you do not know me (I mean, really know me) then there is something you need to understand before you read this blog: I value the truth above everything else... except a good laugh. A good laugh will almost always beat the truth as far as I’m concerned. Everything you read on this blog will be true, somewhat true, or something I made up in an effort to get a laugh. Sometimes I will go on a rant that I don’t really mean (or only kind of mean). Sometimes I will mean what I write only to completely change my mind a year, month, or day later. Such is life. By reading this blog you agree not to get offended by anything I write (or, at the very least, you agree not to tell me or anyone else that you are offended). It is worth noting that my employer does not endorse my blog (or even read it, to tell you the truth). The Wife also does not endorse my blog (though she will read it from time to time). I am not paid to write this... it’s just my way of giving back to the community. I have, and will, touch on a wide range of subjects and will give my opinion on these subjects. Again, most of what I say is for laughs but every now and then I will say what I really think and feel (see my views on Westboro Baptist Cult). How will you know when I’m serious and when I’m trying to get a laugh? You’ll know. And if you don’t know, well... maybe this isn’t the best thing for you to be reading. So, sit back, read and enjoy. Happy Birthday Chandler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’d like to take a minute today to with my Labor Day Cousin Chandler a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope she has a GREAT day!!!!!!

So, since my last post there have been some things to make me tear up (for different, manly, reasons). The first was watching Vin Scully call his last regular season home Dodgers baseball game. There is something special about watching someone who is great at their job do their job. I don’t care if it’s the fella pouring your driveway or the Hall of Fame baseball announcer calling a game… it’s nice watching people who take pride in their work. Not only is Vin Scully one of the best, he’s been doing it forever. By “forever”, I mean since 1950. At the time, only four MLB teams (2 in the AL and 2 in the NL) were integrated (a 5th team, the Boston Braves, would get their first black player in 1950). Anyway, it was touching to see the love the players, umpires and fans showed to Scully during this game.

On this same day (the last Sunday in September), it was announced that Arnold Palmer (hall of fame golfer and legendary man) had passed away. So far, I have not heard anyone (and I mean anyone) who has had a bad thing to say about Mr. Palmer. Word is, as great as he was as a golfer he was even better as a man. Everyone has talked about how nice of a man he was. Everyone. That almost never happens when talking about someone who has been in the public eye for so long.

I’m going to go a little out of order here and talk about a nice moment that got to me. It happened in the seventh inning of the Cubs game that night. Manager Joe Madden came out and took catcher David Ross out of the game. Ross is retiring at the end of the season and this was a chance for Cubs fans to show him some love. Something about this move touched.

The last thing was hearing of the passing of Jose Fernandez. To be honest, hearing of the passing didn’t do much to me because I didn’t know him (or of him… I love the Cubs, but don’t know a ton of other players)… but seeing the reactions from other teams (including the Cubs) was touching. Then, on Monday night, I saw this (well, not exactly this… this is just a report of what the Marlins did last Monday night…)

It gets me every time…
