Disclaimer

If you do not know me (I mean, really know me) then there is something you need to understand before you read this blog: I value the truth above everything else... except a good laugh. A good laugh will almost always beat the truth as far as I’m concerned. Everything you read on this blog will be true, somewhat true, or something I made up in an effort to get a laugh. Sometimes I will go on a rant that I don’t really mean (or only kind of mean). Sometimes I will mean what I write only to completely change my mind a year, month, or day later. Such is life. By reading this blog you agree not to get offended by anything I write (or, at the very least, you agree not to tell me or anyone else that you are offended). It is worth noting that my employer does not endorse my blog (or even read it, to tell you the truth). The Wife also does not endorse my blog (though she will read it from time to time). I am not paid to write this... it’s just my way of giving back to the community. I have, and will, touch on a wide range of subjects and will give my opinion on these subjects. Again, most of what I say is for laughs but every now and then I will say what I really think and feel (see my views on Westboro Baptist Cult). How will you know when I’m serious and when I’m trying to get a laugh? You’ll know. And if you don’t know, well... maybe this isn’t the best thing for you to be reading. So, sit back, read and enjoy. T-minus One Week and Counting...

Know Your Medal of Honor Recipients:

Coxswain Thomas Fitzpatrick (US Navy) received his Medal of Honor for his actions on August 5, 1864, on board the USS Hartford. His citation reads:

As captain of the No. 1 gun on board the flagship U.S.S. Hartford, during action against rebel gunboats, the ram Tennessee and Fort Morgan in Mobile Bay, 5 August 1864. Although struck several times in the face by splinters, and with his gun disabled when a shell burst between the 2 forward 9-inch guns, killing and wounding 15 men, Fitzpatrick, within a few minutes, had the gun in working order again with new track, breeching and side tackle, had sent the wounded below, cleared the area of other casualties, and was fighting his gun as before. He served as an inspiration to the members of his crew and contributed to the success of the action in which the Tennessee was captured.

Ensign Francis C. Flaherty (US Navy) received his Medal of Honor for his actions on December 7, 1941, on board the USS Oklahoma. His citation reads:

For conspicuous devotion to duty and extraordinary courage and complete disregard of his own life, above and beyond the call of duty, during the attack on the Fleet in Pearl Harbor, by Japanese forces on 7 December 1941. When it was seen that the U.S.S. Oklahoma was going to capsize and the order was given to abandon ship, Ens. Flaherty remained in a turret, holding a flashlight so the remainder of the turret crew could see to escape, thereby sacrificing his own life.

Sergeant Augustin Flanagan (US Army) received his Medal of Honor for his actions on September 29, 1864, at Chapins Farm, Virginia. His citation reads:

Gallantry in the charge on the enemy's works: rushing forward with the colors and calling upon the men to follow him; was severely wounded.

Something big is going down next Tuesday.  Make sure you read the blog that day.  Really, you should read it everyday... but you don't want to miss next Tuesday.  Tell your friends about it too.  It's going to be epic.  It's something you won't want to miss (of course, even if you do miss it you'll be able to read the next day or the day after that or forever).

So we took The Wife out to eat at Gilligan’s Saturday night for her Mother’s Day meal (we went on Saturday since we had plans with her family on Sunday). Anyway, it was The Wife (of course), me, Mary Ruth, Susie, Daniel, Danny (yes, that Danny) and our favorite nurse Jen (Danny and Jen sat at a different table with his parents, aunt and grandmother… I think he said they were his aunt and grandmother, though I find that hard to believe since they looked young enough to be his sisters). To say it was a great time for The Wife would be a lie even I can’t tell. Honestly, I think she has to shoulder a big part of the blame as I would have been fine leaving the kids at home. To give you a quick recap of the dinner: Mary Ruth seemed to be unable to sit in her chair or eat the food (cheeseburger) that she ordered. Susie also didn’t eat her food (fish… though to be fair I don’t know if she asked for that or if The Wife just got it for her)… and she made The Wife take her to the bathroom about 5 or 6 times (she actually used the bathroom only twice). Daniel did eat… but he also felt like he had to let everyone know he was still there by screaming real loud in short bursts every so often (kind of like a smoke alarm when the battery is about to die). When Daniel got tired of eating, he decided to yell “Dog!” and drop his food to the floor. The Wife’s crab legs were also not as great as she would have liked… so the night could have been better. But for the record, I sat in my seat the whole time, ate all of my food and didn’t scream at all (even when I saw Danny).

Picture Tuesday

Our pictures this week are from our time at the park, at our dinner and some other random times... And I don't think the pictures loaded in order, so don't get confused.

The Wife and her little monkey boy walking in the park.

Mary Ruth and Susie looking at a turtle in the water.

Two girls "flying" in the park.

Their favorite statue at the park

At this point, the Mother's Day meal was going good... of course, this was before we had been seated.

I think she is smiling.

The Wife told me to watch Daniel while she took the girls to the bathroom.  Not only did I watch him, I took pictures.

The Wife let Daniel have some of her Coke... He wanted more.

Playing on the table that Da made for him.

Really... he loved that dog.

Nana with Maverick, Daniel, Susie and Mary Ruth (Nana doesn't like Scooby)
